The fourth installment of the hugely productive Resident Evil contract, Resident Evil: Afterlife is once again based on the wildly common video game series. In a planet ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the Undead, Alice (Milla Jovovich), continues on her journey to learn survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an ancient buddy. A new lead that promises a secure place of protection from the Undead requires them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead – and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.In Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: Afterlife, the fourth entry in the seemingly endless action-science fiction horror contract based on the common Capcom video game series, plot, dialogue, and character enhancement all stay lesser considerations: What’s crucial right here are the set pieces that enable Milla Jovovich to unleash maximum hurt to virally infected zombies, villainous henchmen, and just about any self else who stands in the way of her stopping the dark Umbrella Corporation. Jovovich retains the blend of grit and pulchritude that have produced her a fanboy ideal (although stated viewers may decry the film’s bit of shower-scene interruptus), and she’s nicely supported by returning cast members Ali Larter and Boris Kodjoe (Undercovers) and Prison Break‘s Wentworth Miller, who, as Claire’s brother, is back behind bars in a postapocalyptic jail overrun by plague zombies. These seeking for more than what the Resident Evil contract is made to supply–souped-up, B-movie thrills–are advised to lower their expectations contract devotees ought to be pleased, specifically by the film’s final scene, which (naturally) sets up yet another sequel. –Paul Gaita
