I know what you mean…c’est la vie, dude. As a sports science guy you should also know that everyone’s not like you. Some people can add a slight about of exercise and really improve themselves b/c they’re going from NOTHING to that. Everything’s relative. Not to mention the psychological aspects – you start doing this, maybe you eat a little better, maybe you walk more, etc. Who knows, ya know. PS try some tabatas or crossfit stuff. Don’t do the sets they do, sub in harder stuff. it’s killer.

@ianhargreaves80 well ur unlucky cuz u have to work so hard. this exercise raises metabolism so basically u do nothing and it burns calories all day

Grrrrrrrrr… you’re right. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I just think it’s lame. I think, maybe, just maybe, this video is misrepresenting slightly. That’s what annoys me.

I think 1 set of these is simply not enough. I think maybe 6 or 7 of these per day will give benefit. Maybe 4 if you continue steady state exercise inbetween.

Unlucky why? I’ve not even bothered trying this exercise. I’m 72 kg and 173 tall. I’m not over weight. I race bikes and ride 8 hours a week.
I’m only getting so pissed off because I’m at university doing sport science (a much higher qualification than most that you’ll see on youtube) and I happen through my studies that this does not touch weight loss. I know, and can bet an infinate amount of money, that wou’ve not lost 10 lbs of fat from doing 1 of these per day alone.

@ianhargreaves80 i do this once a day and walk for 2 miles most days. since i started doing this i have lost 10 pounds in a month, and also have a lot more energy. so for some people this does work. u r just unlucky i guess.

@ianhargreaves80 – you get the same kind of comments under EVERY workout video posted on youtube. People want a quick fix and they don’t want to have to think about it. Let them do whatever. If they do enough tabatas (try 4 in a row people, then see how you feel!) they will see health improvements. The video doesn’t tout weight loss, people are reading into it. There’s not much you can do about it.

….cont…You perform an exercise with body weight and it is relative to your own weight, results vary, perform with free weights and results could vary again but more calories will be used, yes it has great cardio benefits and with a healthy balanced diet as well as a good exercise routine tabata training can help weight loss. I hope you have tried it for yourself.

@ianhargreaves80. When people follow the tabata protocol with any type of exercise with a correct and safe technique it provides a great workout, 4 minutes is the minimum time but it can be done for a longer period…..

@ianhargreaves80 – I mostly agree with you. I have been doing these consistently for about a year, and I actually do think my VO2max and anaerobic capacities have improved – but I’ve also lost some weight and gotten healthier in general (not b/c of tabatas) so who knows – no control there. My point is…drop it. You’re not going to really change anyone’s mind. There is a lot of ignorance a/b exercise/working out/diet (and everything else) that isn’t going to be changed by your comment on 1 video

@laurenmac14 so that proves my point!!! People think this is for weight loss. The research referrenced in this video did not assess matabolism increases, it assessed they VO2MAX and anaerobic capacities of 2 types of training. This video seems not to be aimed at loosing weight nor will you loose any, ANY, NONE, from this type of work out. The rate of matabolism increase will be marginal at best. I think the video is accidentally misleading. DON’T expect weight loss from this type of work out.

@liepinshtein I read nearly 500 of them. 4 of them stated they saw results in a week. No one stated what they saw, i.e. weight loss, if so how much weight, improved vitality, mood. Very subjective, not very objective. There was about 10 times more comments asking “Will I lose weight from this”… that, to me, states people do misunderstad this video! Maybe the video is ACCIDENTALLY misleading. There was about 15 times more comments saying “She’s hot!” or “She’s been ‘fully worked’”. lol

The faster your metabolism is running, the more calories you are burning without any effort. Trust me, a fast metabolism is desirable.

If you bothered reading the comments, you’d see that people ARE getting results from this. Obviously results will vary from person to person, but it’s not a bad workout to do.

@ianhargreaves80 just to be clear, the research article is called Effects of moderate-intensity endurance and high-intensity intermittent training on anaerobic capacity and VO2max.
STOP EXPECTING WEIGHT LOSS FROM THIS VIDEO… PLEASE.
This study was looking at VO2MAX and anaerobic capacity improvements in 2 types of training.

Ok, read the abstract (I can gain university access to the full document but enough info is in the abstract). This study does not refer to weight loss. If you’re doing this to improve general fitness then maybe it’s ok, ok at best that is. If you fancy shedding some pounds then this will not cut it. No where in the journal was body mass looked at. So yes, peer reviewed sounds good but the people watching this have the wrong idea of its intentions. Maybe because the video is not clear enough?
February 26, 2010 @ 8:08 am
ianhargreaves80 said,
@georgiapea you seem to know the research paper referred to in the video, is that because you’re involved in this video?
February 26, 2010 @ 9:05 am

Peer-reviewed journal there, buddy. Not that everyone posting comments on here really gets how this stuff works (not that I fully understand either). Obviously this isn’t some miracle-4-minute-and-nothing-else workout, but it is very intense (if you do it correctly). Cross-fit has been incorporating it as well, and I think that’s what’s key – incorporation.
