Wrecked my back
February 8th, 2007
Working out tonight. Went in this morning, did my squats but had to quit after about 4 sets from a cough that was hurting and making it impossible to workout. Went in tonight, back was a bit sore from the squats and the cough remained. Dummy me decided to continue my workout, next thing on my list after squats is dead lifts. I did a warm up set of 225 pounds x 10, went to my next set of 315 on rep 7 something just tore, extremely bad. I was able to put my bar back and the weights, barely made it down to the locker room. Got dressed as well as I could but could not tie my shoes.
I extremely messed my backup, I’m afraid this is not simple sprain

ouch! I think I did that something like that in the gym the other week and couldn’t tie shoelaces or pick things up from the floor. I had to rest it for a few days.
You need a good massage. -calling backup-
I hope you feel better soon Grim

Don’t worry Grim. You’re in good company:
I think I remember reading somewhere that Bruce Lee knackered his back doing deadlifts with too much weight, and then just used lighter weights after the accident.

well if you tore yur back its prolbably due to improper form with the deadlifts, or you were simply trying to deadlift a weight too heavy for you, which caused too much strain in yur back. Deadlifts are a very good, mass building exercise; however, if done improperly, you have a chance of severly injuring your lumbar region (lower back). Pain resonating from your lower back is a sure way to determine that the deadlifts caused that pain.
